This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop (SNW), a key satellite workshop to the large VLSI Symposium. On June 8-9, SNW was held at Rihga Royal Hotel, with contributions to organization by Daniel Moraru as the Program Chair, together with Prof. Kuniyuki Kakushima (Science Tokyo, General Chair) and Dr. Katsuhiko Nishiguchi (NTT Basic Research Labs, Program Co-Chair). Many thanks to the excellent Technical Program Committee members (old and new), to the staff taking care of various procedures, to IEEE (for technical sponsorship) and to Japan Society of Applied Physics (for financial sponsorship).

The success of this workshop, however, came mainly from the high quality of contributions, with highly competitive submissions, resulting in 31 oral presentations and 33 posters with shotgun, 1 min presentations.

We were honored to have also inspiring Plenary Speakers: Prof. Hideo Hosono, Science Tokyo and Prof. Michelle Simmons, University of New South Wales, Australia. Invited Speakers gave insightful talks and came from various locations and fields: Prof. Zahid Durrani (Imperial College London, UK), Dr. Attilio Belmonte (imec, Belgium), Assoc. Prof. Jun Yoneda (The Univ. of Tokyo), Assoc. Prof. Masahiro Hori (Shizuoka Univ.) and Prof. Yanqing Wu (Peking Univ.). Many thanks to each and every one of the presenters and, of course, to our TPC members who kindly co-chaired each session.

The workshop ended in a Panel Discussion which I had the pleasure to moderate, looking back to the past 30 years of SNW with Prof. Toshiro Hiramoto (one of the founders of the workshop) and looking forward over the next 30 years with 3 insightful panelists, from among the Invited Speakers.

From our group and collaborators, the following presentations were contributed to this year’s event:
(1) D. Alfafa, A. Udhiarto, and D. Moraru, “Study of Current Inflections in Reverse Bias in Nano-dimensional Silicon Esaki Diodes” (oral presentation)
(2) S. Chakraborty, P. Sudha, H. Arora, D. Moraru, and A. Samanta, “Experimental Observation of Sequential Electron Incorporation within P-Donor Molecules in a Silicon Nano-Transistor” (oral presentation)
(3) P. Sudha, S. Chakraborty, D. Moraru, and A. Samanta, “High-Temperature Single-Electron Tunneling through P-donors Affected by Confinement” (oral presentation)*
(4) S. Miyagawa, J. Panisilvam, P. Sudha, A. Samanta, and D. Moraru, “Study of Single-Photon Detection Using a Back-Gated Si Single-Electron Transistor” (poster presentation)

Thanks to all for your efforts and to all participants for contributions.

We hope there were many chances to interact, network, and connect throughout the event. Happy 30th Anniversary, Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop, and many more successful editions to come!
