On September 8th, we celebrated at our Hamamatsu Campus the Fall Graduation Ceremony at Shizuoka University, especially for the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Informatics, and our Graduate School of Science and Technology (GSST).

Our lab marked another milestone by the high-standard graduation of Daris Alfafa, Double Degree Program (DDP) student between Shizuoka University and Universitas Indonesia. After 3 years of hard work for research and study, he was selected as vice-representative for his batch and received the GSST Dean’s Award for exceptional achievements. These include several journal papers in Physica Status Solidi A and Advanced Quantum Technologies, several peer-reviewed Proceedings papers, and contributions to several tens of conference presentations leading to a few other distinct awards. Most recently, just a few days ago, one of such awards was the Young Researcher Award for Oral Presentation at the Inter-Academia Conference 2026, in Iasi, Romania.

Congratulations, Dr. Daris Alfafa, for a memorable journey leading to your degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering! It was an even more memorable event to have both parents flying from Indonesia to attend this important ceremony and celebrate together such a milestone.
Many thanks for their support, for the cooperation with Prof. Arief Udhiarto (supervisor on the UI side), for the advice and collaboration from Prof. Michiharu Tabe and Prof. Yukinori Ono as well as for the feedback from the examination committee members. There were many interactions and small projects with lots of Japanese or international students over the course of the past 3 years, many shaping somehow the scenario of the PhD thesis or some approach – thanks are due to everyone from our lab. Keep in touch, including during the remaining journey of Dr. Daris Alfafa towards his second PhD degree at UI!

Congratulations to the entire batch of hundreds of graduating students! I look forward to hearing wonderful news from your next career steps!
