Thanks to a Mobility for Researchers in Diaspora Grant, to be provided by UEFISCDI, Prof. Daniel Moraru had the opportunity to spend several meaningful, insightful and interactive days again In Iași, at the invitation of Prof. Ionuț Topală, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (UAIC).

Together with two students from our group and with valuable support from the Japan Culture Center of UAIC, on Sept. 25, several scientific demonstrations were carried out, physics explanations were provided, and Shizuoka University and Japan in general were promoted to many tens of children and by-passers at the Night of Researchers (Noaptea Cercetătorilor) event. Small diplomas were delivered to children, who could get some exposure to our line of research. All the efforts by the NC organizers and their kind arrangements before, during, and after the event are greatly appreciated.

During the next days, our group had the chance to attend the Opening Ceremony of UAIC (Sept. 26), as well as the Opening Ceremony for the Faculty of Physics (Sept. 28), coordinated by the Dean, Prof. Ionuț Topală, and the team of professors, secretariat staff and volunteers. Congratulations to all the students who were awarded! Hopefully, some will follow in the footsteps of the 5 students of this year who accessed Erasmus+ program to visit us for traineeships this summer, with significant results.

Our team enjoyed also several lab tours that provided deep insights about the good research facilities available at UAIC. Interactions with Deans of other Faculties, researchers from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, and personnel of the secretariat and office for international relations – all these enriched our experiences and gave unexpected nuances to our visit. We’d like to thank each and every one for the time dedicated to us, for the kind consideration, and for opening new opportunities for future cooperation.

Visits at Japan Culture Center with many Japanese students, meeting again Prof. Shizutoshi Ando (Tokyo University of Science), and a unique program of experiences offered to our students by their Romanian and Moldavian colleagues made these few days unforgettable for all, from different perspectives. Many thanks to Dr. Marius Dobromir and not only, for always providing support on various issues.

We look forward to seeing new ideas, new projects, new interactions developing from this mobility, on top of many other interactions over the years.

Thanks to everyone whom we met, let’s keep in touch, and, hopefully… see you all in Japan next time!
