We had a great open seminar on September 8, which was given by Prof. Naresh Patwari from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The title of his talk was “Glimps of Roaming Radical Reaction”.
8th Asian Spectroscopy Conference 2023
8th Asian Spectroscopy Conference was held at “Atema-Kogen Highland Resort Hotel Bernatio” at Tokamachi, Niigata on September 4-7. Prof. Matsumoto participated this conference as a member of the local organizing committee. In addition, he had an opportunity of the invited oral presentation “Microscopic preference for hetero-chiral propylene oxide dimer induced by H-bond of an achiral pyrrole molecule”.
Defense of Master thesis
Ms. Reza Aulia (M2) had the defense of her master’s thesis on August 9. The title of her thesis is “Structural analysis of alcohol – alkylsilane dihydrogen-bonded clusters probed by IR cavity ringdown spectroscopy”.
Paper accepted
Our paper on “IR cavity ringdown spectroscopy and density functional theory calculation of pyrrole – diethyl ketone clusters: Impacts of carbon-chain flexibility on the diversity of N-H…O=C hydrogen bond” was accepted in Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (DOI: 10.1039/d3cp01466e).
Visiting Ito Campus of Kyushu University
Prof. Matsumoto has visited Prof. Terasaki (Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Kyushu University) on June 30. I excitedly enjoyed the laboratory tours of Terasaki Laboratory and Onda Laboratory. Surprisingly on that day, I was so happy to have an opportunity to participate in the special lecture by Prof. Tatsuya Tsukuda (Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo).
5th Joint Research Prize
Prof. Matsumoto won the 5th Joint Research Prize from “Network Joint Research Center for Materials and Devices”. He attended the award ceremony in Centennial Hall of Kyushu University School of Medicine on June 29. The research topic for this prize is “Infrared Study on Aromatic Charge Resonance Complex”, which was collaborated with Prof. Masaaki Fujii (Director of Laboratory for Chemistry and Life Science, Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology).
38th Symposium on Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics
Prof. Matsumoto has participated in the 38th Symposium on Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics (June 7-9, 2023), which was organized by Kyushu University.
Joint research with Prof. Otto Dopfer
Prof. Matsumoto visited the laboratory of Prof. Otto Dopfer at Technical University Berlin on May 22 – June 2, 2023. This was the opportunity for our joint research supported by the JSPS Bilateral Exchange Program between Japan and Germany. We proceeded to write our manuscript on IR photodissociation spectroscopy of the hydrated clusters of pyrrole dimer cations (Py2+(H2O)n).
Science Cafe in Shizuoka
Prof. Matsumoto had the great opportunity of the outreach activity to talk about our research and dream to the citizen in Shizuoka city. The title of his talk was “Invitation to Molecular Science in Optical Cavity: Sandwiching Molecules between Two Mirrors”.
Research proposal is accepted
Our research proposal “Study on aromatic charge resonance complex probed by IR spectroscopy” has been accepted by the Network Joint Research Center for Materials and Devices. This study will collaborate with Prof. Masaaki Fujii at Tokyo Institute of Technology. We will study IR spectroscopy of solvated clusters with pyrrole dimer cations to investigate the relationship between solvated structures and intra-cluster charge distribution.
