For several months over this summer, our lab at the Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University hosted as Visiting Associate Professor Dr. Jun-Yu (Bruce) Ou. Ou-sensei came from the University of Southampton, UK, bringing a broad range of expertise in the fields of optoelectronics, metamaterials, photonics, and imaging.

There were many interactions during his stay, showing the potential for collaboration within several international networks. A presentation in our long-running Monday Morning Forum opened new insights for colleagues at RIE, while presentations and discussions within our group inspired a few lines of research. Among these, single-photon detection using codoped silicon nanodevices was more extensively investigated, together with several hard-working students.

From now, we look forward to converting these interactions into meaningful output, also on the base of a JSPS-Royal Society Bilateral Project that we are submitting.

Thank you for your visit and for opening a few new ideas, despite a busy traveling and interaction schedule.
