We are pleased to share our group’s latest publication (open access) in Advanced Quantum Technologies (Wiley), addressing the topic:
Electron-Wave Interference in Zener Tunneling Induced by Dopant Clusters in Silicon pn Junctions”.
This work was led by the PhD student (D3), Daris Alfafa, as part of his PhD thesis, representing a collaborative effort with colleagues from Shizuoka University and Universitas Indonesia.
In this study, we report clear signatures of electron-wave interference in the Zener tunneling regime of highly doped silicon nanoscale pn junctions. The observed quasi-periodic current oscillations reveal the coherent nature of electron transport, originating from dopant-cluster-induced potential variations at the nanoscale.
These findings highlight that even in silicon – traditionally treated within an incoherent transport framework – quantum coherence effects can play a measurable role. This opens new perspectives for understanding and exploiting even atomic-level potential modulations for future nanoelectronics in otherwise CMOS-compatible devices.
